The Jiajiang- New Year Picture (NYP) originated in the Yuan Dynasty, flourished in the Song, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Regarded as a feudal superstition across generations, Jiajiang-NYP remained in people's vision and witnessed the development of China's economy and culture and popularization of cultural inheritance in society. Though the existing number of Jiajiang-NYP is scarce, it is still necessary to explore and investigate it deeply. The rationale behind this study is that Jiajiang-NYP, as an intangible cultural heritage, contains rich historical and cultural information and regional aesthetic thoughts, which is of great significance to its protection and inheritance. By using the literature analysis method, combined with historical documents, art reviews and cultural studies, the research provides theoretical support and practical guidance for the protection and inheritance of Jiajiang-NYP, by analyzing the aesthetic thoughts of the themes of the door god Yuchi Gong in Jiajiang-NYP. The study revealed Jiajiang-NYP's aesthetic thoughts and cultural personality through in-depth study of their creative themes, expression techniques, portrayal skills and production techniques. Taking the sample of the door god, Yuchi Gong, the study found that the regional aesthetic thought combined with the expression techniques, painting skills and production techniques grasp the cultural personality and aesthetic thoughts in Jiajiang-NYP. This study showed how the intangible cultural heritage can be protected through cultural and creative activities such as preserving Jiajiang-NYP.
